Tumbler 24

Like yesterday's post, I added dots to this before firing, but due to the chemical makeup of the applied glazes, they didn't saw up AT ALL.

In progress....
Final product.  White cone 6 stoneware, glaze, mason stain.
I brushed on a mason stain with a lot of cobalt in it.  It fluxed with the clear glaze I put on over the whole thing after I peeled the dots off...properties of the clear glaze make the cobalt run, and it filled in all the dots.  But it looks cool anyway!

I also love how the clear runs into the white I glazed the inside.

Tumbler 23

I had some fun with vinyl dots as a resist with this one.  Before glazing I stuck on dots (cut at home with my trusty vinyl cutter, of course) in a simple belt around the cup.  Then I brushed on some jade glaze/stroke and coat, and after it dried, pulled off the dots to reveal the raw clay behind.  I wanted to see if the glaze would drip or degrade the dots, and mostly the glaze stayed where it was.  A few dots have a slump on the top curve, but otherwise this cup has a nice no-slip grip.

dot it up, friend!

The only piece not on music (so far).  I glued the book edges to this piece of matboard almost a year ago and then just looked at it, not knowing what to do next.  There are book, magazine, and envelope edges mingled together, holding another set of decades' worth of paper dots on top.

Music Dots Series #1

Welcome to fall time here at Eighty Acres Art!

After a 7 week run of art shows, I had some time to regroup and prepare for a busy holiday retail season.  I've been making some popular simple-yet-fabulous pieces out of antique piano music and paper dots on a grid.  Some grids are straightforward squares, others are off-center, diagonal, or on arches.  Please enjoy the new pieces and contact me if you are interested in purchasing!  I'll be taking a majority of these to the City Arts space at the Wichita Art Museum for their Gifts in the Gallery Holiday Boutique.  Others will travel with me around the KC and Lawrence area to the pop-ups perfect for cold weather shopping.

A family friend's mother was a piano teacher for decades and she generously donated many books to me for art purposes!  I have enough paper to live several life times and not use it all, and I keep all the little bits and pieces from various applications.  Trying to use them up, I found my trusty hole punch from the early vinyl clock days and started at it.

Without further adieu...

The guy behind the legs was named Harry Munsell.  Nom nom, right?  And that's not just a hamburger--that's a hamburger with BITS OF HOTDOG added right into the patty!  Oh, McCall's, you never cease to teach me new things from the 1960s.

I can't let you forget about Instagram!
