Stripey experiment here...I painted on this mason stain+glaze concoction (originally it was a rose color) in a few thick spots, then dunked the top half in white.  It ran a little and washed it away just a bit.  This particular mason stain has been a real pain and let me down many times, so I gave it one more chance.  As long as I don't do a wipe on/wipe off thing and make it nice and thick, it seems to do okay.  Okay?

 Back to tumblers!  These are made of recycled cone 10 stoneware.  This particular one I striped with chocolate brown mason stain-ed slip before firing.  I never know if the stripes will show up once glaze is applied, but this worked quite well.

I left tracks behind where I was holding the tumbler when I dipped it in glaze.
It's like a signature I guess.

We have a certain clear glaze at the Clay Guild that creates runny, drippy, watery surfaces and fluxes with any blue colorants.

And now...tumblers!  I decided to try some surface color decoration that didn't involve impressions because...I got some free stuff and wanted to try it out!  A classmate (Deborah Gendel--look at her work!  It's great!) gave me some underglaze and Stroke & Coat, a Mayco brand product that is great for painting and line work.  I have simple, primitive decorating skills, so I decided to go with lots of stripes and some dots to start learning about this application.  I also used mason stains mixed with white glaze to make my own colors.  The next several posts will be from this ongoing product line.
